I have been involved in multiple traumas over the past couple of years, and I am still very much in the recovery phase. I finally decided to give yoga a change about 3 months ago, and was surprised how much of a difference I felt. So I went all over the valley trying as many different yoga programs as I could. I am so glad that I found Yoga on the Rocks! I really wish I'd discovered yoga years ago. All of the instructors here are fantastic, and I've had really good and really bad instructors through the other programs that I've tried. The instructors at Yoga on the Rocks are a major reason I've gotten so involved with my practice. I really appreciate the classes at Yoga on the Rocks because they TEACH you about yoga, not just bark out positions like drill sergeants (I've seen too many of those!). It's that solid foundation that kept me from ever getting a bad taste in my mouth about yoga-which might have happened with lesser instructors. There is a real emphasis here on the fact that yoga is about the journey, not the destination. It's not just reaching that position. When you are given the chance to learn about the how's and why's, not just balance here or stretch that, you can really incorporate the mental healing that is just as vital as anything else! I can tell that I'm at the right place here, because when every single muscle in body has been relaxed and let go of, mysteriously I have a HUGE smile on my face! I have a lot of healing to do and Yoga on the Rocks has healed me faster than all of the rehab and medications I've taken. I feel so much better and I need significantly less pain medication because of my yoga practice. I'm hoping to heal enough to get off of it altogether. It's my goal to spend 2012 going to as many classes as I can-2, 3, maybe 4 classes a day? Now that I'm technically "disabled", winning this has been the most exciting thing I could hope for. THANK YOU!!! -Jason Anania

The mistake so many yoga students make is expecting benefits from yoga practices, Dharma says. "That is the natural tendency. People are always expecting: If you do the meditation, you're expecting to have some results. Even in your prayers, you're always asking, asking, asking." Expectations frequently give rise to disappointment. When selfishness is stripped from the practice, when ego recedes, the benefits will come, he says. "Keep the ethical rules, eat the right food, surrender to the Lord, and lose your ego. That's all. You don't have to put your legs behind your head, do all these fancy poses."
"But if you enjoy all this jumping," he says with a chuckle, "go ahead."
