Intermediate
Technique
Class length: 3 hours
Member Cost: $50
Non-member Cost: $65
Who should take this class?
This class is for intermediate level climbers who want to learn better climbing
technique and how to move more efficiently up the rock. We will build on
the techniques taught in the Introduction to Rock Climbing class focusing
on foot placements, body control, route finding, how to rest while climbing,
and ways to train and get stronger.
What skills will people who take this
class learn?
At the conclusion of this class you will have learned how to balance better
on the rock, how to move more controlled and efficient way up the rock, how
to read routes better, and how to train to climb better.
Introduction
to Indoor Lead Climbing
Class length: 2 classes; 3 hours each
Member Cost: $75
Non-member Cost: $100
Who should take this class?
This class is a thorough introduction to INDOOR 'sport' lead climbing. You
will learn proper belaying and clipping techniques, belayer-climber communication,
and numerous safety issues. To take this class you must be able to top rope
climb ANY 5.9 in the gym in a controlled style, on demand of the climbing
instructor.
What skills will people who take this
class learn?
At the conclusion of this
class you will be certified
by properly belaying a
climber on the “test”
route and by properly
lead climbing the “test”
route, under the supervision
of the climbing instructor.
You will demonstrate the
ability to recognize a
back-clip and z-clip,
to belay a lead fall,
load a gri-gri and ATC,
to take a lead fall, to
perform safety checks
before climbing or belaying,
and to manage the lead
rope.
Private
Instruction
AZ
on the Rocks also offers
private instruction scheduled
at your convenience. Topics
covered per request of
the customer. Rates are
per hour.

Youth
Belay Certification Class
Children
ages 12-14 who would like
belay at the AZ on the
Rocks gym must complete
this class. The
class covers the same
topics as the Introduction
to Indoor Climbing class.
